A shiboridashi is a Japanese-style take on the gaiwan—a convenient fusion of bowl and teapot. It consists of a shallow cup with a lid and a finely notched spout that allows for easy, precise pouring, even when brewing the smallest Japanese tea leaves.

This shiboridashi is—in our opinion—one of the most stunning pieces created by Artur Rej. Its colors are particularly captivating: a deep, rich navy that shifts elegantly between earthy browns and soft greens. The lid is a story of its own—composed of a larger, desert-beige section and a smaller, darker area, separated by a crisp, geometrically perfect line.
What makes this piece so special is not just its beauty, but the invitation to interact with it. The contrasting lid allows for playful expressiveness—one can choose its orientation in relation to the body, adding a dynamic element to the brewing process. There’s even the charming idea of using the darker segment as a signal—indicating whether the vessel holds only dry leaves or already steeping water. Establishing a consistent lid position for each step would be not only poetic, but practical—you’d never forget about your steeping tea again.

The interior of the vessel is glazed in white, enhancing the visual appeal of the tea leaves placed inside and allowing for a clear appreciation of both their form and the color of the infusion.

Seven precisely carved grooves ensure a steady, beautiful stream and prevent clogging—even when brewing the finest, tiniest tea leaves.

Capacity: exactly 100 ml—just right for two or three people.

Fully glazed, the vessel remains neutral to the taste of the tea and is conveniently dishwasher safe.

Artur Rej crafts artistic teaware in his studio nestled in the Bóbr Valley Landscape Park, where he also runs pottery workshops. His ceramic style is truly distinctive—his pieces are known for their cheerful, rich colors and soft, rounded forms that invite touch as much as admiration.
