Chapan is a special board for preparing tea. It allows for free brewing, protecting tables and floors from spilled tea and water. This very practical item, jokingly referred to as the “foundation of tea brewing,” also allows you to conveniently prepare all the utensils and safely transport them to where you want to drink. Additionally, it adds an aesthetic touch to tea sessions; one could say the chapan is a stage for the spectacle of tea brewing, defining the boundaries within which we focus our attention.

Our tea boards are fully hand-carved by Czech artist František Polívka. Each one is slightly different and unique. This particular one is made from light alder wood. The wood’s grain and beautiful patterns are clearly visible, giving it a very natural look and a wonderful forest scent. Its dimensions are 13 cm x 40 cm. It is protected with natural wax and is, of course, fully water-resistant. Like any wooden chapan, it will slowly change color over years of use, but from experience, we know that this tea patina only adds character to the board.

These chapans do not have a separate external reservoir, but the special grooves allow them to hold a significant amount of spilled water—at least 200 milliliters. So even if a gaiwan full of tea tragically tips over, the tea board should comfortably contain all the spilled liquid.
