A unique matchawan, hand‑thrown on the wheel by polish pottery artist Pola Słomka.

A matchawan is a bowl made specifically for preparing matcha. The artist shaped the base so it’s easy to whisk, and added tall, straight walls so you don’t have to worry about splashing. Traditionally, a matchawan is used both for making and serving matcha.

Each bowl is made entirely by hand, so every piece is truly unique and one of a kind.

All matchawans from this firing (from #3 to #10) are about 7 cm tall and 11 cm across, comfortably holding up to 350 ml of water. That means you can comfortably enjoy not only traditional, straight matcha in them, but even a modern latte – whisk about 50 ml of matcha and top it up with around 200 ml of frothed milk.

The whisk is shown in the photo only to illustrate the bowl’s size and purpose, and isn’t part of the set. Your screen settings may affect the shade of the matchawan’s colors.

Pola Słomka is our longtime friend and one of the most respected tea‑ceramics artists in Poland. She works professionally with tea ceramics, holds a master’s degree in ceramics from Wrocław, and trained under the legendary Petr Novák, likely the most renowned tea‑ceramics maker in Europe. For years her work was known for its incredibly delicate, thin walls, though she’s now also exploring more traditional, heavier forms as well as glazes she mixes herself. We warmly encourage you to follow and admire her remarkable work on her Instagram.
