Huoshan Yellow Buds is a traditional yellow tea made of first spring leaves and tea buds. But what exactly is yellow tea? How is it made? Green tea undergoes a special processing, called yellowing, that removes its characteristic grassy and fresh vegetal flavors. However, each loss brings a different gain! As a result of the yellowing process, flavors that usually stay in the background of green tea come to the forefront. Yellow tea is therefore floral, nutty, gently straw-like, it’s creamy, delicate, and refined.
The yellowing is interspersed with multiple roastings at different temperatures, that further enrich the brew’s flavor. It gives tea pleasant notes of walnut and sweet yellow fruits, along with roasted vegetables.
This tea is truly exceptional—very elegant, smooth, and calm. It has a rich aroma and a light, unobtrusive taste. Yellow tea is the rarest of all types, as its processing is complex and does not scale well for large factories. Consequently, it remains a niche variety meant for special occasions.
