Description
Nana mint, also known as spearmint, is popular mint used in the Middle East. It has similar characteristics to common European peppermint, but its flavour is naturally sweeter and invigorating, making it an amazing base for any drink. For those of us who have had the opportunity to visit the countries of Northern Africa are well aware of this; who hasn’t fallen in love with the flavour of Moroccan tea? Meanwhile in Israel, they simply serve fresh mint leaves doused in boiling water, with sugarcube waiting on the side. And for us here at home, whenever we’ve already had our caffeine fix for the day and we need a bit of rest, we boldly sprinkle dried mint through a strainer into a cup…. 🙂
Our impressions
Antoni
Nana mint (or spearmint) is the freshest of all the mint varieties I’ve tried. The more popular peppermint in Poland has a scratchy sharpness when brewed strongly, while nana is just refreshing, sweet, and mentholated. For this reason, it’s difficult to prepare traditional Moroccan tea with Polish peppermint, as it is brewed very, very strongly, until it reaches an intensely orange color. Nana mint is perfect for this. The mint we import is dried. Does this form have any other advantages besides durability? Yes! I love smoking dried mint. You can roll a cigarette directly from it, or mix it one-to-one with tobacco, for example.
