Matcha Aoba is a tea we’re especially proud of. It’s a classic, high‑quality matcha made entirely without artificial pesticides. It comes from the very birthplace of matcha — Kyoto Prefecture. And here’s something worth noting: it was ground just before being shipped from Japan to our warehouse, which means you’re getting an exceptionally fresh product.
Tencha (the leaf used to make matcha before it’s ground — naturally comes from the first harvest and is shaded under traditional mats for over three weeks before picking. Its flavor is further enriched by the volcanic soils in which the tea bushes grow. This tea is perfect for an everyday matcha prepared in the light usucha style, offering a rich, sweet taste.
Harvest: spring 2025
Origin: Kyoto, Japan
Cultivar: mixed
Brewing methods
Usucha style (lighter, foamy matcha):
1.6g/70ml water
75-80°C
Soak the fibers of the chasen (bamboo whisk) in warm water.
It’s worth sifting matcha through a strainer directly into the chawan (large tea bowl) to avoid clumping.
Add water and stir with the chasen 4-5 times in a sweeping circular motion at the bottom of the bowl to set the powder in motion. Then, for 30 seconds, vigorously move the chasen in a “W” shape back and forth at the bottom of the bowl.
Finally, gently run the chasen over the surface of the infusion to lightly break up any excess foam.
